Spring is one of my most favorite times of year. It feels so good to see plants starting to wake up, the sun shines a little longer and the air is just a little warmer. Spring also brings Easter, which is such an important holiday in my family. We love getting together and celebrating Jesus’ rising.
This year I decided I needed a new Easter and/or spring decoration. And I want to make it a quick bunny project! I like to use pallets for these projects because a) I have a LOT of them and b) they are FREE. In addition, they sure look rustic and I love that! My husband is my official wood assembler, so I usually just tell him how big of a sign I want to make and he goes out to the garage and brings back a clean, sanded blank slate made of pallet wood. <LOVE>
Everyone needs to be able to make QUICK bunny decorations like this! It is so easy and literally took me about 20 minutes, including drying time. Just make sure you have all your supplies ready and you will be done in a jiffy! I promise!! It is soooo easy.
Supplies
- One clean pallet sign in your desired size
- Clear contact paper and my bunny template
- White and Brown Acrylic paint
- Hot Glue Gun
- Orange and Green ribbon
- Cotton Ball
Quick Bunny Directions
Using the template I have provided, trace the bunny shape onto the clear contact paper. Carefully cut this template out.
Stick the bunny shape that you just cut out of contact paper to your clean pallet sign. Rub it down good so it sticks well, you will be painting over the edges of it.
Take about 1 tablespoon of white acrylic paint and mix with about 1 tablespoon of water. Mix well. This is the watered down paint you will use to cover the part of the board that is not covered by the contact paper. Now, paint over the edges of the contact paper and all over the board. The point here is at the end, when you remove the contact paper, you will have an adorable bunny shape that is the natural pallet wood color. I actually painted the white over all the areas twice, because I felt the first coat was not white enough for my taste. You can decide after you get the first coat of white on. Let it dry about 5 minutes. Add a second coat if desired.
Now, take about 1 teaspoon of brown acrylic paint and 2 teaspoons of water and mix well. I painted this mixture about an inch around the edge of the bunny contact paper, on the exposed wood side. This just gave my little bunny a little warmth. Let it dry five minutes and then you can remove the contact paper and see your adorable bunny!
For the tail, I took one cotton ball and stretched it out of its normal ball shape and tried to make it look fluffy! Then I used hot glue to adhere it to my bunny in the appropriate spot (where the tail should be)!
The carrot adds a little color to the whole project, which gives it a little more spring-like feel! For the carrot, I used two ribbons and some hot glue. I glued the orange ribbon to itself, in an accordion – like style, back and forth getting smaller with each fold. The green ribbon is the stem of the carrot. I just wrapped it around my fingers, held it in the middle of the bunch and cut it, so they were all about the same length. Then I hot glued the to the back of the carrot from the previous step.
Now, find a good spot on the sign to put the carrot and add dollop of hot glue to the back of the carrot. Ta-da! An easy and quick bunny decoration for Easter and spring!
