Am I the only one who seems to feel worse the older I get? Why do other women my age look like they are having the time of their lives, while I am over here with brain fog, total exhaustion and lack of desire to do much of anything. What gives???
Well, after many trips to my General Doctor – who is happy to report that I am fine and everything is within ‘normal’ ranges, I gave up (or was enlightened) and went to a Homeopathic specialist. It sure is frustrating to wonder why you feel terrible and the Dr says you are fine! Well, my homeopathic specialist saved my life! (although I don’t think I would have DIED, but I was miserable!)
Diagnosis:
I had yeast overgrowth in my small intestine. YEAST. Yuck.
Thus the Paleo-ish diet comes in! My homeopathic specialist recommended, along with some very potent homeopathic supplements, the clean eating diet. No sugar, no caffeine, no dairy and no grains. Well, other than my love for breads of many varieties, coffee was my biggest problem. How do you expect a working mother of two to NOT have some help in the morning?? He gave in and I was able to have ONE high quality cup of joe AFTER I had eaten breakfast.
Results!
After some rough initial days, I am proud to report that I have a clear mind, I have lost some weight, my brain fog has lifted and I have more energy than I have had in years!! I am amazed at how much my life has changed because of this food change. I highly recommend it! The paleo-ish diet is not for everyone, and it is very restrictive, but the mindset is the most important part – clean eating and healthy digestion!! As a result, not eating processed foods and looking for fresh ingredients has made such a difference in my world (and my family’s).
As a result of our change in diet habits, I will be posting some of our favorite Paleo-ish meals, snacks and breakfasts (because breakfast IS the most important meal of the day). I do not follow the Paleo diet to a ‘T’ because I have been given the okay to eat some of the restricted foods (some dairy, small amounts of sugar, and some caffeine), so if you are following a strict Paleo diet, please check the ingredients of my recipes BEFORE you make yours!
Because of this new way of eating, I have found a new favorite cookbook that is Paleo: “Practical Paleo” by Diane Sanfilippo. The link will take you to Amazon to purchase it, if you are interested. It has really helped me change the way I think about food!
