My Mom’s birthday was not long ago and one of her wish list items was an insulated casserole carrier. I thought that maybe making one would be a better gift than going and buying one. There are several tutorials online for your own insulated casserole carrier, and they didn’t look very complicated, so I decided to give it a shot!

I followed the instructions by SewVeryCrafty with just two small changes. I found some really fun fabric at JoAnns that had tacos and avocados and lots of bring colors. Then I got some coordinating orange fabric for the outside of the carrier, and of-course the insulated lining. I also found black strapping for the handle.

Make It!
The instructions from SewVeryCrafty were super easy to follow and really didn’t take too much time to get through the project. Check out the photos of the project in process. I love how bright the colors are!
I mentioned that there were two small changes I made. The first change was to NOT round the corners of the top piece. I just didn’t feel that it would add that much to the project. The second thing I changed was to shorten the handle a little. I cut off a foot (12 inches) of strapping before I attached it to the casserole carrier. I pinned it all together before stitching and it seemed way too long for my tastes.
Near the end of the project, I decided that the orange fabric needed something to make it a little more flashy, so I added the word “Yummy!” using black Iron-on vinyl and my Cricut Maker machine. I ironed it on when the casserole carrier was complete. I think it looks great! And since my Mom is usually taking a casserole dish to share with someone, telling them it is yummy as soon as they see it makes it all the more fun!
This project took me about three hours to make. Not to bad for a novice sewer! I hope you give it a try!
