After spending most of last winter living, cooking and eating in our basement during our kitchen remodel, we are finally ready to show it off to the world! Our two month project, which stretched into almost four months, completely changed how we live in our house. The kitchen remodel reveal is such a proud moment for us! And I can’t even begin to express how happy we are to not be living like trolls in the basement!
If you missed our tips on how to survive a kitchen remodel with a family, you can check it out here.

Our kitchen remodel actually encompassed more than just our kitchen, as we needed the flooring on our entire first level replaced, and we also have three bathrooms that needed updating, so we tackled those as well, at almost the same time. We did stagger the bathrooms a bit because in a house with two teenage girls, there is no way we could survive with too many bathrooms out of commission at the same time!
The Before
My before pictures are not great. Mostly because I hated the kitchen so much, that when it was time to tear it apart, we were so excited to get started, I forgot to take pictures until it was almost all gone! Sorry!! It really needed to GO. We went from a ‘one butt kitchen’ to a huge kitchen and we all love it! (One butt kitchen means only one butt fits in the kitchen at a time)
Our kitchen, laundry room and family room were all one great room. We decided that washing dirty socks next to where we prepare our meals was not a good option for us, so we moved the washer and dryer to a mudroom off our garage. We stacked the washer and dryer to save space. It also saves on noise and heat – we are so thrilled with that outcome!
The After
We put in an island that is gigantic and wide enough to put four barstools at, so we can all eat together at the island. It is now also the homework spot, conversation spot and snack spot.
Now for the counter tops. OMGEEEEE. I love them. Our contractor made butcher block counter tops for the outside counters. They are BEAUTIFUL. And they have been topped with a resin product so they never need any maintenance. The island is also a resin product – made to order according to the colors, textures and design that we wanted. We wanted blue veined quartz type material and that is exactly what we got. But this product is better with heat and scratches. FABULOUS!!
The cabinets are all painted white, with the exception of the island. We choose a beautiful blue that fits our style perfectly. Our new kitchen reveals all the extra storage space we have gained, all the amazing lighting that makes everything so bright and inviting. The colors are beautiful, the space is inviting and there is a whole lot more cooking an baking going on! I hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
Some of the things that went into our kitchen are:
LG 6.3 cuft Dual Fuel Slide-in Range
GE Cafe French Door Wall Oven 30 inch
Copper Farmhouse Sink with Faucet
Patriot Lighting Copper Pendants
Matte Porcelain Tile Backsplash in Woodfield

Your kitchen looks amazing! Great job!!!! Where did you get your blue island? Did you paint your cabinets white or replace them with new ones? I am thinking about painting our oak cabinets blue
