Our teachers spent a lot of time guiding our precious children in many different subjects. They show incredible patience. They give our children so much. When it is time to show them a little thanks, why not also make it a very useful gift? This genius teacher gift is great for elementary school teachers, or any other teachers that keep pencils handy for the children.

These are actually two old fashioned drinking straw holders made from plastic that we found at the dollar store! We found them there during the summer Fourth of July party time. The straws were red, white and blue. And I wish I had taken a before picture!! They looked so cute in these containers. BUT – these containers are also perfect to hold pencils! And inexpensive! You can also find some sturdier, not too expensive, straw dispensers on amazon, like this one.
Time to transform them!
How To Make It
To make the genius teacher gift, take out all the straws from TWO straw holders. Then, using a Cricut or Silhouette, and some vinyl in your choice of color, cut out the words ‘Sharp’ and ‘Dull’. I used white because it stands out so nicely against the blue containers. Be sure to size your letters correctly so that they will fit the tops of the straw containers.
Use transfer tape to place the vinyl letters on the lids of the straw containers. Alternatively, you can also purchase alphabet stickers and place them on the straw containers resulting in the same effect.
Fill the ‘sharp’ container with lots of freshly sharpened pencils and put the dull pencils in the ‘dull’ container, until one of the students can sharpen them! It’s a Genius Teacher Gift that will last a long time and is extremely useful! What a great end of school year gift! Are you looking for other teacher gifts?
