Teenage girls require a lot of space! My daughter loves her clothes, beauty products and books. Collecting all her stuff ends up creating piles and piles all over her room. It was time to make a change in her bedroom! We needed a way that she can have a place for everything! The only place I could think of going to is IKEA! IKEA has so many different storage ideas and the internet is full of unique ways to use IKEA hacks! So, we went shopping!
My daughter has this great memory foam mattress that lies on a platform frame. Amazing bed. Very close to the floor. Did I mention my daughter is also six feet 2 inches tall? Yes! She is. At fourteen years old. She does take after my side of the family! I guess that is beside the point, however, getting her bed frame off the floor MIGHT help her get out of bed easier in the mornings (ha).

Before:
We purchased two Kallax shelf units from IKEA to put under her bed lengthwise. BAM! An instant addition of four cubbies that can be used with baskets or books or hoodies! And, in addition, her bed is now an additional sixteen and a half inches off the floor! Did I mention my daughter is tall? Her bed is an extra long twin, so the Kallax shelf was a little short to keep her bed steady on top of it. So, we added two single Eket cube shelfs at the end, for additional support and storage! These two on the end are a slightly smaller size than the Kallax, so my hubby had to add some wood to the bottom to lift it up enough to provide support to the end of the bed.
Initially, we placed non-slip rug mats on top of the Kallax shelves to keep the bed frame from slipping, but it did not grip very well and we did have problems with the bed slipping off the shelves. We have since switched to non-slip grip pads that would be put on the bottom of furniture. They work great! No slipping at all!

This storage addition has been amazing! It really helps my daughter organize her room and keep things a little more picked up, since she has a place for her things!
IKEA is a life saver for teenager’s rooms! We also have this cart for her make-up and this dresser and nightstand! We love them!
Please ignore the beautiful green carpet. That is our next project!
*** Update ***
We took the GREEN carpet out of her bedroom and put in laminate wood flooring, added a fuzzy rug and got a new duvet cover. Her room looks totally different, so much more up to date and it is gorgeous! The Kallax shelves are still going strong and actually help my daughter be more organized! Win!
